Seven Altered Books Book, hair, iron pin, t.v. radio and rahle Each book is combined with an object, placed on a special small table called Rahle, a Koran Stand, and varies in design, format and content. In most cases there is no text, the books are purely visual or audile communicating their message visually by unfolding the inner sensibilities. Reading these visual sculptural books is not altogether different from reading one with text. Banna uses the book as a totemic artifact, they are still a container of information-not one of language and words, but of images and objects which we are accustomed to and digested. This work diminishes the nuances between traditions such as language, religion and ethnicity, confirming the reality of we are all human beings regardless of our cultural identities.
